How to Take Orders and Release Your Inner Slave: Handling the Challenging People in Your Life
An overbearing boss
by Jason Roth
It's hard enough to handle difficult people. But when the difficult person is an authority figure with the ability to cause real turmoil in your life, it's even harder. An overbearing boss is like an overbearing teacher. Just as your parents, in a sense, forced you to deal with your teachers by requiring you to go to school, so it follows that everything your parents did while you were a child led to the necessity of you having the life, career, and boss you have now.
Rather than being a thankless child endlessly dreaming of running away from your problems instead of facing them head-on, accept your predicament and do as you're told. You're not the boss, are you? If you were good enough, you would have been promoted by now. Your boss, on the other hand, rose through the ranks to get where he did. Accept the wisdom of your boss. You might not understand it now, but one day, if you're lucky, you will. As the old saying goes, keep your hands on the plow, your feet in the shackles, and your nose on the sweet smell of subordination.
