How to Take Orders and Release Your Inner Slave: Handling the Challenging People in Your Life

Rude people

by Jason Roth

You've had bad days before, haven't you? Sure, we all have. Therefore, is it really up to us to determine whether every act of rudeness we encounter is due to some innate "meanness" or is just a manifestation of a short-lived but all-too-human bad mood? If it seems like someone is interrupting you a little too often, or being curt or accusatory, or occasionally forgetting to say "please" or "thank you", or cutting you off in traffic, or spray-painting a swastika on your front door, or leaving you with the smallest piece of pizza, imagine yourself for a moment in their shoes. Is it really any skin off of your back to give someone an opportunity to let off some steam and break into your house and rape your family? Of course not. There's plenty of family to go around.

The theory is sort of like the reverse contrapositive of karma. Let others do unto you, and you can do whatever the fuck you want to do to them. It's as comforting as a pair of slippers and a warm glass of milk.
