3. Never use violence in retaliation to violence.
Jesus said it best: "Turn the other cheek." He might not have been talking about male rape in a dark alley, but this is the twenty-first century.
Children learn best by example.
You must show children that you are truly against violence - of any sort - on principle. If a mugger reaches for your wallet and you push his hand away, what does that say to a child? That it's ok to push people around? That your space is sacred, but a mugger's space isn't worth the ground he steals on?
When in doubt, follow the simple credo: "Live and let live." Just keep in mind that letting someone else live sometimes means that you will die.
