Three Things You Can Do To Help Reduce Violence in Our Society.

by Jason Roth

3. Never use violence in retaliation to violence.

Jesus said it best: "Turn the other cheek." He might not have been talking about male rape in a dark alley, but this is the twenty-first century.

Children learn best by example.

You must show children that you are truly against violence - of any sort - on principle. If a mugger reaches for your wallet and you push his hand away, what does that say to a child? That it's ok to push people around? That your space is sacred, but a mugger's space isn't worth the ground he steals on?

When in doubt, follow the simple credo: "Live and let live." Just keep in mind that letting someone else live sometimes means that you will die.

Go to:

  1. Eliminate violent language from your vocabulary.

  2. Refrain from punishing your child.

  3. Never use violence in retaliation to violence.
