The Ever Passing Moment

I love these guys. I guess most people call this stuff punk, but it's really just upbeat 50s-influenced rock. Every song is catchy and has some great vocals, some with really nice harmonies. Listen to the samples on Amazon and you'll get a taste. (Some Christian God stuff in the lyrics, but not much.)

Super Furry Animals
Mwng

My all-time favorite Welsh language album. (Ok, my only Welsh language album.) Finally, an album I can't categorize. If you're in the mood to hear something beyond comparison (well, maybe a little Beatles in here...), take a listen to this.

endsongs

First album from a great new band. Melodic modern rock; cool, clear guitar and soothing vocals. Some Brit-pop influence, but a unique sound that emphasizes all instruments (two guitars, bass, drums). You will be hearing a lot of them eventually, it's only a matter of time. I've seen them several times in NYC, and they're consistently excellent. They even produced and engineered their album... amazing.

Magnolia
(Soundtrack)

I've been listening to this ever since I saw the movie for the first time. It's rare for me to like albums that are so somber, but it's also rare for somber music to be this honest. Aimee Mann does the bulk of the songs. (Skip the two Supertramp songs.)

So Much for the Afterglow

This album's a few years old now, but it took me a while to admit I liked something played on the radio along with all the other Nirvana and Alice In Chains wannabe crap. Pretty melodic and catchy, even if there are a few grungy riffs.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Have a Ball

Upbeat, punk-rock versions of mostly 70s songs. Take a listen to the sound samples on Amazon: Danny's Song, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard, and more. Ok, so even they can't salvage Barry Manilow's Mandy, but their version of Rocket Man kicks ass. (Band members are from NOFX, Lagwagon, and others.)
