Mr. Goldbeck,

I looked at your "Healthy Highways" website. What a pleasant alternative to a "Hershey Highway"! There's nothing more unhealthy than stopping at a rest stop on the proverbial Hershey Highway, like George Michaels did, and buying chocolate bars.

I'd love to link to your website. Do you have any special recipes for meals that people could make in their own cars while sitting at rest stops? Have you ever heard of a wireless Foreman grill?

Also, how much money would I make?

Best regards,

Jason Roth

Dear Jason:

Thank you for your delightful letter. We'd love it of you would link to us.

I like your idea of a "car cuisine." Will send it to the test kitchen (Nikki).

Wireless Forman? - you are on to something!

Happy Trails,

Best wishes,

Dear David,

If you need a tester for the "cardoorves" (I think that has a better ring to it than "car cuisine!), just let me know. If you want, you can mail them to me and I'll "review" them. :) Don't worry, I'll eat them at stop signs so I don't get "blood all over the food"! :)

What's the best way to link to you? Do I need to review your book? By the way, what talk shows have you been on?

-Jason

Dear Jason:

I have no idea how you link. I am not good at that. I know that you can do it with either text or graphics. (Questions Bill at webmaster@spinningwebz.com) If you want a small banner we can send that to you.

We have been on many talk show over the last three decades. Why do you ask?

Be glad to send you a review copy. (address) Just don't decipher and drive  :)

Dear David,

That would be great if you could ship me an ad banner, I'd love to put it up on my website. Should I send you my home address, or do you need a PO box? Thanks for offering to have your guy Friday help me to set it up.

I asked which talk shows you were on because I saw the photo on your site of you on the Donawho show. I always thought Donawho kicked the you-know-what out of Oprah Winfrey. It's really a shame that "whore" had to go and kill him in the ratings. :)

Your offer to send me a review copy of "Healthy Highways" is very generous. Could you e-mail it to me? Assuming it's worth its weight in vegetables, I'd be happy to post a review, and if I can get that whole ad banner thing working, I could link to your website, too.

Have a healthy trip up the old Hershey Highway!

Regards,

Jason

Can't send you Healthy Highways via the net. PO address will do.
Don't understand what you mean about Oprah.

David,

That sounds great. Is your book the one that comes with the free tofu? Because my mailbox isn't refrigerated. I'll need to pick it up right away before it spoils.

Oh, what I said about Oprah? I was saying that she really beat Donawho in the ratings. Although, I think if you look back into talk-show history, you'll find that Jerry Springer and his "elk" really did it to Donawho, too. Donawho, although he was a communist, at least he occasionally talked about intelligent issues, rather than just who Jim Carrey is dating or the joys of female masturbation.

Which shows were you on? Were you a hippie back then?

Regards,

Jason

You are one funny dude.

We were on most of the talk shows and Donahue four times.

Sorry I missed that show about female masturbation. :)

Was, and still am a hippy (aarp now)

Will shrink wrap the book to prevent cross-contamination.

Dear David,

Do you have a book on junk food? I never really liked eating healthy.

Also, can you explain all this "vegan" nonsense? Isn't it enough to be a vegetarian? As far as I know, there's no name for people who eat chicken but not steak. Do we really need subcategories for people who eat sprouts rather than soy beans?

Regards,

Jason

All our books are junk.

I came up with "fishitarians" for those who say "I'm a vegetarian but eat fish."

I think the vegan thing is OK. It raises people's consciousness about respect for life. Also some interesting cuisine has come out of it. The big problem is the fundamentalists.

Dear David,

Sorry I haven't replied in a few days. I've been really busy, so the easiest thing for me would be if you could write a review of your own book that I could sign my name to and post to my website. You know, try to make it look like I've actually read it. I'm closer to a fishitarian than a vegetarian, though I'm really more of a fishandmeatatarian. Also, I think kittens are cute, but I love the idea of six live chickens getting butchered and made into a dozen buffalo wings. If there's any way to reconcile your "green" and "animal rights" views with my "death to animals for my pleasure" view, that would be great. If you can do that, I'll definitely post it.

By the way, I looked at vegan.com. There was a letter posted there from somebody who was raising their kids on a "mostly vegan" diet. That was pretty funny. Also, I saw a link to an article praising Peter Singer, the author of "Animal Liberation". If I remember correctly, Peter Singer was a speciesest. Didn't he try to justify the slaughtering of plants solely because they weren't capable of feeling pain?

Regards,

Jason

Jason,

Well here goes my reputation:

One writer called them the "anti-Sterns" ( the husband-wife team the promotes greasy roadside attractions). But this couple, Nikki and David Goldbeck prefer to promote dare we say it - "healthy" and "vegetarian" fare. If this is your thing check out "Healthy Highways: The Travelers' Guide to Healthy Eating" (Ceres Press,$18.95) . Its got over 1,900 natural food stores, vegetarian and health-conscious restaurants throughout the USA. Each listing is keyed to state maps, along with local driving directions so you can save that expensive foreign oil. Available at HealthyHighways.com. DON'T TRAVEL WITHOUT IT
