Muhammad Abdullah "the Beaver" McCline, arrested last night for his role in the suicide bombing of a Brooklyn synagogue last Yom Kippur, was "not acting out of hate", according to a police spokesman. McCline, an African American man who converted to Islam on September 12, 2001, had no connection to the alleged terrorist organization, al Qaeda, police say.
"The attack was completely random and had nothing to do with Islam," Detective Marvin Nash told reporters.
Blood-splattered yarmulkes and a spray-painted Chicago Bulls basketball jersey reading 'The Hand of Allah Will Strike Down the Jews and the Deceivers" were found framed on McCline's apartment wall, prompting some observers to urge police to prosecute McCline under the new hate crime laws.
"The real Islam is not a religion of hate, Detective Nash said.
Nash, an expert in bombings and a recent student of religion, says recent hate crime legislation applies only to "white guys", not to oppressed religious groups who have recently destroyed New York skyscrapers.
"Calling this a hate crime would only be sinking to their level," Nash said. "We don't want to turn this stuff into a religious war."
When asked whose level he meant by "their level" and what "this stuff" was a reference to, Nash responded that he urgently needed to "take a piss" and "sorry, my fuckin' bladder is killing me."
Nash also complained of a strong ringing in his right ear hole.
