Trials and Tribulations of a Muslim Hijacker

From the Associated Press (Oct. 4, 2006):
"A Turkish army deserter who hijacked a Turkish airliner to Italy is seeking asylum because he fears persecution in his Muslim homeland after his conversion to Christianity and wanted Pope Benedict XVI's protection, an Italian prosecutor said Wednesday."
This scumbag believes he'd be safer in Italy, the destination of an airplane he hijacked, than he would in Turkey, where he fears persecution for converting from Muslim to Christian. Isn't Turkey one of the "moderate" Muslim countries?
No need to answer, it's a rhetorical question.
