So, Rush Limbaugh has "quit" his ESPN job. Here we go again, another company without the balls to take a little controversy. Even when that's supposedly what they wanted by hiring Limbaugh to begin with.
No one in their right mind believes that Rush Limbaugh's comments were racist. The mere mentioning of a person's skin color by a white guy is enough to advocate crucifixion.
If you haven't yet heard or read what Limbaugh said, here's the evil sentence:
"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."
The only way you could say these comments were "racist" is if you thought it was impossible for someone to come to this conclusion without being racist. But obviously, Limbaugh has good reason to think this about the media. Let me remind everyone about the pathetic Halle Berry Oscar farce. Remember how loud the media was about a "black woman" winning an Oscar? (Not a half-black, half-white woman, mind you.) They were bubbling with fucking glee about it. Do you think it's not at least possible that they might root for a black quarterback because he's black?
The point isn't whether Limbaugh was right. It's whether his comments were racist. Clearly, they weren't. In fact, he even offered a reason why Philadelphia had performed well despite McNabb's performance. "The defense carried this team," he said.
It's sad that we live in a society that permits us to say such remarks, but whose citizens don't have the balls to actually listen to them.
