Let 'em Loot

by Jason Roth

"Something that is, is always somewhere, even if we can't see it."
- Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers)

"...peace through strength works."
- Ronald Reagan

As I flipped past CNN today as quickly as humanly possible (without actually tampering with the electronics of the remote control or somehow rigging it up to some kind of robotic claw), I heard one of CNN's propagandists stationed in Baghdad comment on the "volatile" nature of the city. I couldn't help but laugh.

While this gloom and doom bastard focused solely on the potential for violence, CNN played footage of Iraqi people smiling, cheering, and tearing down the big statue of Saddam Hussein from the middle of Baghdad. Since presumably there was no violence in the city at the time, all the CNN stooge could mention was that more of Hussein's Revolutionary Guard were yet to be captured, and that he observed "wounded" in the city of Baghdad today. The contrast between his face and words on the one side of the screen, and the jubilant Iraqi people on the other, was truly poetic irony.

For those who actually saw the statue fall (Bill O'Reilly reported tonight that the BBC cut away before showing the statue fall), it was an exhilarating sight. No, the liberation of the Iraqi people was not our primary mission. And no, our mission is not finished. But seeing such positive, concrete results of our actions is inspiring. I also felt happy for the U.S. soldiers, who were finally given an emotional reward for their courageous and moral service.

For some reason, my knee-jerk reaction to this sight, besides to wipe tears of joy from eyes, was to yell "Fuck the French!" quickly followed by a "We Kick Ass!"

It was beautiful to see the American flags held high by the Iraqis, both in Baghdad and in Michigan (which I learned yesterday has a population of over 30,000 Iraqi immigrants), and to hear Iraqi men in Baghdad thanking President Bush for ridding them of their dictator.

There was also footage of food and various supplies being looted by Baghdad residents. I say let 'em loot.

Leftist media outlets would only dare sympathize with looting if it were done by an American mob after a basketball game. When the truly sympathetic loot to take back what has been forcibly denied them, these same media are wary. Wary, because they are determined to hold onto their bogus theoretical interpretations of the war as immoral and impractical until the very end. Expect more. Every act of violence in Iraq in the next five years will be seen as a sign of "instability". Every act of torture and murder eliminated due to American efforts will go unnoticed.

That's ok. Truth doesn't need CNN's confirmation. Facts exist whether or not people choose to see them. If they want to see them, they can.

For one thing, they can do what I do. I turn on Fox News.
