The following has nothing to do with this site, but if you're interested in rock and roll, read on.
I feel motivated to set the record straight once and for all. (On this supremely important subject.) Here is the definitive list of the top-10 punk cover songs.
If you've never listened to punk rock before, this is a good chance to start. In my opinion, punk is the genre within modern rock that is the most consistent with original rock (i.e., "oldies".) The best punk bands use similar chord progressions, and are every bit as melodic as Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry. The only major difference is a slightly heavier electric guitar, which I'm confident would have been used by all of the original rock and roll musicians, had the technology been available.
(Yeah, I know. Blink 182 is no Chuck Berry, but that's not the point, wiseguy.)
